Raised on the North Texas Plains, I was encouraged to explore creatively and to live intuitively. Resourcefulness, individuality and exploration were a high value to me. Though creativity was esteemed, fine art itself was something I was not exposed to. An artist was something I never even thought of becoming. My incessant creative explorations were mere hobbies, yet the place where I felt the most alive.
I remember in fourth grade being perplexed by my desired career. Friends around me wanted to be astronauts and teachers. I wanted to be a pioneer! This idea perplexed me through the years, but I now understand; it’s the different, uncharted path that calls to me. The Unknown, Undiscovered.
In my mid-twenties, I began a floral design business where I designed flowers for countless weddings and events for nearly twenty years. During those years, my husband and I added four beautiful children to the story. They are the real masterpieces.
Along the way I discovered the true value of beauty, aesthetics and our surroundings. I learned that beautiful works of any form can touch a soul, have a profound impact. I began to see that creation itself is a magnificent demonstration of God’s artful extravagance in which I am invited to participate.
Flow. Movement. Merge. Contrast. Translucence. Vibrance. Luminescence. All of these words I use to describe my work and I am continually moved from the process to the final product. I am forever grateful that I get to participate in adding beautiful things to this world.
